Indicadores de sustentabilidad para el control de planes de manejo en bosques templados de Argentina. El caso de la especie Nothofagus pumilio en la provincia de Chubut

Abstract

Se elaboró un diagnóstico de las condiciones de evaluación y control de los planes de manejo forestal en los bosques de lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) en la provincia del Chubut, Argentina. A partir de ese diagnóstico, se definieron criterios e indicadores de sustentabilidad para mejorar el sistema vigente. Con los indicadores seleccionados (y sus verificadores) se definió una secuencia estándar a utilizar en las distintas etapas del proceso de evaluación y control de los planes de manejo. Con la implementación del estándar propuesto, Chubut se convirtió en la primera provincia del país que fiscaliza el uso de sus bosques mediante C&I de sustentabilidad además, esta es una de las pocas iniciativas estatales de evaluación forestal a nivel internacional.

A diagnosis of assessment and control conditions of lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) forests management plans was carried out in the Province of Chubut, Argentina. Basing on the diagnosis, sustainability criteria and indicators were defined in order to improve the current system. The indicators selected (and their verifiers) were standardized to be used on the different stages of the evaluation and control process of forest management plans. With the implementation of the standard, Chubut became the first province in the country that controls forest use by means of C&I for sustainability. This is one of the few governmental strategies of forest evaluation in the world.
