Abstract
An ex-ante cost-benefit financial analysis was conducted to evaluate the financial profitability of investing in the adoption of the systems: 1) multi-strata agro-silvopastoral (ASSP) using guava (Psidium guajava L), aro (Trichanthera gigantea (H. & B.)) and corn (Zea mays), and 2) agroforestry system (AGF) using guava (Psidium guajava L), plantain (Musa AAB) and corn (Zea mays) from areas with conventional cattle farming systems which are covered in pastures in the Oiba and Guapotá municipalities, Department of Santander, Colombia. The systems evaluated are sensitive to increases in inputs, labor and cattle price (buying and selling). Both systems are profitable even though the ASSP is 7 percent more profitable than the AGF system.
