Combate del tórsalo (Dermatobia hominis, L. Jr.) por medio de insecticidas, en Turrialba, Costa Rica
Résumé
A series of experiments was devised in order to study several chlorinated insecticides upon the incidence of Dermatobia hominis on cattle.
Several points came out from preliminary trials, such as: serious mistakes occur when treated and untreated animals are kept in the same pasture; tests should include periods of high and low infestation, etc. On experimental work it was found that no significant differences appeared with applications made two weeks apart with the chlorinated insecticides in the months of heavy infestation. Performance of Toxaphene at different concentrations, time of application, addition of adjuvants, residual effect, and other characteristics of the product are considered; also, types of animals used, differences in pastures, and other factors involved in such experiments, are discussed in this article.
