The characteristics of tropical forests make it unlikely that all species can be identified using aerial photographs; these are better suited to establishing vegetation boundaries, preliminary studies supplemented by observations in the forest, and the more or less accurate identification of the primary vegetation patterns that appear within tropical mixed forests and vegetation radiations, known as "aspects."
