Algunas propiedades de suelos de la región Amazónica del Estado de Maranhao, Brasil
Abstract
Eight lateritic and alluvial soils were studied from the Amazon area in the Northeast of the state of Maranhao, Brazil. The water retention curves are presented and discussed, and also the titration curves for these acid soils are included. Some of the chemical characteristics are also discussed and evidence for intensive fixation of P and low content of interchangeable cations is presented. It is concluded that, despite inadequate chemical characteristics, these soils can produce high yields per surface unit if adequate soil management techniques are adopted
