It is suggested in this paper, that the lower belts of all latitudinal regions of Holdridge’s Life Zone System should be called basal. On the other hand, Upper Montane and Prenival are proposed as substituting terms for the previously used Subalpine and Alpine. It is considered that these new terms are more universal, because they do not imply any geographical connection. Moreover, it also suggested that the term Nival that appears in the Spanish version of the system, should be substituted Nevoso, since the former one is not a Spanish word.
