The objective of this study was to evaluate the arboreal component of silvopastoril systems in dairy farms of the sub-Districts Santa Marta, Santo Domingo and Sortová, Bugaba District, Republic of Panama. The study area is a very humid premontane forest life zone; alt 138 - 600 masl; mean daily temperature of 25.4°C; evaporation 4.5 mm day-1, average precipitation 3700 mm yr-1, atmospheric pressure 755.0 mm of Hg. In the farms traditional silvopastoral systems such as dispersed trees (DT) and living fences (LF) are common. For the characterization of farming systems, a structured survey was carried out on 97 dairy farms by selecting 35 farms in Santa Marta, 26 in Santo Domingo and 36 in Sortova. In order to make a detailed evaluation of trees in pastures (dispersed trees and living fences), 6 farms was randomly selected per sub district (3) in which it was measured diversity and abundance of species for sampling (0.3 minor or equal than height 1.5 m) and young trees (ABH minor than 5 cm), total and commercial height, and diameter of the trees at breast height (DBH, greater or equal than 5 cm). In LF, species diversity, abundance, total height and pruning height were measured; and for woody species the DBH and the commercial height.
