Árboles maderables en fincas de cacao orgánico del Alto Beni, Bolivia

Abstract

Se inventariaron los árboles maderables en las áreas agrícolas de 100 fincas de productores cacaoteros de asociaciones y cooperativas del Alto Beni, Boliva. Se estimaron la riqueza de especies y la densidad de maderables en las áreas agrícolas y se hizo una comparación entre fincas de cooperativas y de asociaciones y entre usos de la tierra. Los usos de la tierra con mayor riqueza de maderables fueron huerto casero, cacaotal y bananal. Las fincas tienen muy poca madera en los campos agrícolas, la mayoría de los árboles son jóvenes, de pequeñas dimensiones y tienen fustes con torceduras fuertes y baja calidad. Los productores requieren de germoplasma superior de especies maderables valiosas, apoyo en la producción de plantines y capacitación y asistencia técnica en varios aspectos silviculturales. Timber trees in the agricultural areas of 100 cacao farms, belonging to participants in associations or cooperatives in Alto Beni, Bolivia, were inventoried. Species richness and density of timber trees in agricultural land were estimated and comparisons were made between farms of participants in cooperatives with those in associations, as well as between land uses. Land uses with the greatest species richness of timber trees were home gardens, cacao and banana plantations. These farms have low timber reserves in agricultural areas and the majority of the trees found therein are young, of small dimensions and have twisted trunks and low quality. The farmers need superior germplasm of valuable timber species, help with the production of seedlings and training and technical assistance in various silvicultural aspects.
