Las características de algunas especies forestales con miras a su utilización en la industria fosforera

Abstract

Tests were made to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the woods presently used and those that appear promising for manufacturing matches in Costa Rica. Results are divided into four groups: 1) those species commonly used by the match factories, showing good working properties; 2) those with excellent properties, not presently used, but could be used without reservation by the match factory; 3) species with less favorable qualities that could be used for match sticks but which require special handling for manufacturing boxes; and 4) species that show little promise for the match industry because of poor working qualities.
