There are a few studies about edge effects in composition, diversity and structure of fragments vegetation in tropical forest;in these sense, the present study that analyze edge effects in forest fragments in Las Pava s, Pa n a m a watershed contituying an important tool to understand the best aspect of the ecology in level of fragments tropicals forests. For this research it was established in each of four fragments of studied forest a total of 5 plots from 20m x 40m, which were located in a consecutively way, since the edge to the inner of forest in a 20 m of distances until 100m; some variables were evaluated such as: abundance, number of families, genera, species basal area, importance value indices and ShannonWe i n e r, Simpson and Alpha diversity indices for three diametrics categories: trees, shrubs and seedling. Therefore trees were evaluated in the number of death standing trees and falling down trees. There were not significant differences (p>0.05) in the statistical analysis. The studied fragments showed small areas and they seemed had suffered several alteration grades; it means not edge effects are detected regarding to the evaluated floristic parameters. The results appointed that more alterated sites present a large number of individuals by smaller diametric classes in all studied distance categories. In the death trees variable it was observed that greater alteration forest showed a greater death standing trees and falling down trees, and also in all sites the greater value to this variable are found very close to the edge until 40 m to the interior.
